and the air that swirls around me, makes me feel as if i could be, more than what i imagined, but less than what i have dreamed. Golden eyes connected with deep amber eyes, never flickering so much as to disconnect. A warning clung subtly to the air around the two beings, both crouched, neither seeming to want to move first. One stood on four shaky limbs, head cocked warily to the side, as if any moment he was going to take off. The other crouched low, a feral sneer flashing lightly across his pale lips. Both watched, as the silence grew. A bird called over head, stirring the four-legged beast into actions. His tail flickered, and all limbs leap into a sideways dance, loping as fast as his terrorized body could manage. Before long, there was a snarl, almost echoing through the mountain. Pale limbs contorted, fingers twisting to near talons, as his body flew through the air, to land clutchingly on the beast. His lips parted, finding the delectable blood that flowed heatedly through the jugular of the animal. And, slowly, sip by sip, that deep golden gaze lightened, second by second, to an almost topaz sheen.
Lifting himself from the newly depleted carcass, he straightened easily, and stepped away. His bronze hair was in complete disarray, but that was certainly normal for him. He was, after all, a vampire. So, no matter how bad he might look on a given day, it would more than likely always attract the unwanted attention of those vain, but flirtatious females he so hated. No, there was only one female that mattered to Edward Cullen. Atleast, one that mattered so much where romance was concerned. A slightly rueful smile tilted to his lips, as he shifted the tan leather of his jacket about him, and walked lithly toward the trees nearby. In a split second, he was relaxing against the base of a particularly tall pine, on a branche about midway up. His gaze flickered out over the snow-clad mountain, and a surreal sigh escaped his lips. He loved these mountains, for some reason. They always provided an escape. Sometimes he wished his gift was like Bella's. A grin slipped to those pale lips. Yes, sometimes he wished he could turn his gift on and off like Bella could. But then, at other times, he enjoyed it. Much like when he played chess with Alice. Only Alice and Edward could make a simple game of Chess last for hours on in. Raising one leg to bend it at the knee, he laid a rist over it, swinging the other leg to dangle in the air beside the tree-limb. Yes, today would be peaceful, atleast for him.

A foot reached outwards from the brush to nudge the corpse of the beast somewhat gingerly, a tall man hedging the slain creature as he continued forth. What had killed it? Nolan glanced around, nostrils flaring slightly as he took in the countless traces of so many things around him. From the many strands of enlightenment, one dangled outwards to him in a fashion so tempting he couldn’t resist: company. So he was not alone, then. Did his fellow enjoy killing animals for sport? Not a bad hobby, really. Helped deplete the amount of animal energy stored up between hunts, perhaps. Nolan dually noted the idea, tucking it away for examination later. He was always game for some kind of challenge.
Sauntering forwards, his chin snaps up, crimson eyes focusing on a figure in the treetops far above. Despite his height, Nolan’s keen eyesight captured the man’s bronze hair and young face, but mostly focused on his light skin. So his first intuition had been correct; Nolan was not alone. Denali seemed to be drawing in all sorts of monsters these days.
A casual grin arched his thin lips as Nolan cleared his throat loudly, sure that the fellow vampire would hear him. “What business have you got up there, friend?” His laughing voice broke the silence, sending a loose leaf from the above canopy spiraling to the ground. He shifted a Converse-clad foot, kicking leisurely at the fallen foliage. Fall must be coming…my, the seasons flew so fast when you already had so many behind you. Especially when there were countless before you, presuming that you didn’t get yourself into any trouble along the way.

---Eyes closed breathing steadily, far to low for a human to hear, a fair girl stood in the middle of the forests surrounding mount mckinley. Isabella stood listening to the steady beating of fox who prepared to pounce at her. She knew a slight movement would send him running so she stood still as a statue; eyes closed waiting for her opportunity to take his blood. As she heard the fox pounce she caught him mid jump taking him to the ground and holding his down with her hands. Sinking her teeth into the thick vein in his neck she drank the fox bloodless. Straightening up Bella licked her blood covered lips and fixed her dress over her slim figure. Not a drop on her silk dress, she smiled slightly, pleased with herself, glad that she hadn’t been as sloppy as she thought she was being. Isabella turned slightly, hearing a beating heart close by. She walked slowly and quietly until she could see the grey wolf.
---Isabella stopped in her tracks; this was why she was so against coming here. She was all for leaving forks but going somewhere where this would not be a problem. The wolf sensing her behind him turned to look at her, those eyes, they reminded her of someone, so sad, so alone, so venerable. She turned her back on the wolf and started running in the general direction she saw Edward go in earlier. Usually he can sense someone by their thoughts but since he couldn’t hear hers unless she let him she could follow him undetected. The real reason why Bella had come out here to follow him was because she didn’t want to be alone, renesmee was off with a couple of people and the rest of the family had gone visiting, and she just didn’t want to be alone with her thoughts.
---Isabella allowed down slightly as she heard a voice, someone she didn’t know, she crept in the shadows of the tree a little bit away from him and saw him look up into the tree he was standing at, her gaze followed his and landed on Edward. He was perched up on a branch so peaceful, so happy. She smiled slightly at that but her attention was adverted to the guy standing there. Bella knew her cover wouldn’t be good for too long. Isabella sighed and walked out fro underneath the tree, looking up at Edward she tried to catch his eye and smiled slightly, she was forgetting the wolf quickly now. She looked at the guy slightly “hello” she said quietly. Her voice curious and protective at the same time. As much as Edward protected her ever since Jacob she seemed to be a little protective of Edward, but she guessed that was normal. She looked at the guy slightly then at Edward crossing her arms over her chest and waiting for someone to say something.

The man above had yet to reply, but a kind of kismet response emerged from the thistle not moments after Nolan’s own announcement faded into whispering echoes among the tall oaks. He didn’t have to turn to scent her; this was a vampire and, by the looks of it, his new “friend’s” mate. He’d heard of the Denali coven, but had thought it contained only Tanya and her family. Was the coven enlarging or had another cluster of vampires begun to populate this area as well? He tilted his head at a slight angle, offering her a cheeky smile and a quick wink. She had a sweet face.
“Nolan Wesley,” he said casually, approaching the woman and sticking a hand out for her to shake. He flinched away, however, when a rare finger of sunlight broke the cloud cover above and slipped through the canopy of leaves, pointing where his hand had hung. Quickly enough for a mortal to miss the swift motion, but not quite abrupt enough for his fingers to slip past the fronds of sunlight unnoticed, he withdrew his hand. He grimaced somewhat as the tips of his fingers met the sunlight, glittering too obviously in the dim forest.
The whole scene took place in about a fraction of a second. It took Nolan less than that to recover and plaster the same cocky smile on his face, tilting his head back again to observe the sky and, more importantly, the girl’s companion. “Are you from the Denali coven?” He prodded offhandedly, addressing neither the woman nor her mate directly but knowing that they both would hear his question.
